The Wedding of Emily and Jake at Rivervale Barn, June 2023

After years of waiting – and a few pandemic curveballs – Emily and Jake finally celebrated their love with a heartfelt summer wedding at the stunning Rivervale Barn. It was a day full of laughter, love, and cucumber sandwiches (more on that later).

From Childhood Sweethearts to Wedding Day

I’ve known Jake’s family for over two decades, so when he introduced me to Emily and asked me to photograph their wedding, it felt like a full-circle moment. These two have been inseparable since 2008, and their connection is the kind that makes my job as a wedding photographer an absolute joy.

We kicked things off earlier in the year with an engagement shoot in their hometown of Woking. Despite their modest warnings of “we’re not that photogenic,” they were naturals – especially with their adorable dog, Peanut, who was already rehearsing his role as ring bearer.

Rain or Shine, Rivervale Barn Delivered

The big day arrived with a few raindrops and a lot of anticipation. Thankfully, Rivervale Barn is purpose-built for weddings, with a gorgeous indoor ceremony space that’s just as magical as the outdoor Spinney. Led by the ever-fabulous Natasha, the team made sure everything ran smoothly, and the couple’s decision to move indoors proved to be perfect.

Calm, Cucumber Sandwiches & a Missing Groom

Emily’s morning began in the Pamper Room with the brilliant Sarah and Amy from Rivervale Beauty. The vibe? Calm, collected, and full of excitement. After hair and makeup, the bridal party (plus Mum) headed to Cornstore Cottage for a spot of afternoon tea. Pro tip: a well-fed photographer is a happy photographer – thank you for the leftover cucumber sandwiches!

Meanwhile, guests began arriving at the front of the venue… but where was Jake? Don’t worry – he turned up just a few minutes later, and the ceremony began without a hitch.
