From Madrid to Gallifrey
A Derby Registry Office Wedding at the Museum of Making
Dani and Stu are absolute legends. Their Derby Registry Office wedding was laid-back, joy-filled and gloriously geeky. In other words, exactly my kind of people. From a celery lapel inspired by the Fifth Doctor to the Tree of Gondor making an appearance, every part of the day felt full of personality.
They met online during lockdown, bonding over banana bread and Zoom calls before deciding to get married over dinner. No grand performance. No unnecessary fuss. Just love, honesty and a clear sense that they had found their person.
Their ceremony at Derby Registry Office was emotional, relaxed and full of laughter. Dani’s mum watched proudly, beaming throughout despite the language barrier. You did not need words to understand what the room was full of. It was one of those ceremonies where the feeling carries everything.
Afterwards, we headed outside for hugs, confetti and a few group photos before slipping away for portraits. We found a hidden courtyard nearby, then wandered through Derby city centre and along the riverside. These two are wonderfully easy together, so the whole thing felt more like a walk with friends than a formal photo session.
Later, I joined them at the Museum of Making in Derby for their drinks reception. The industrial setting gave the second half of the day a completely different feel, and we even managed a cheeky trip up to the clock tower for some moodier, more romantic portraits.
One of my favourite moments came from a surprise for Stu, who is a huge Doctor Who fan. I had managed to include cast autographs in their wedding card, and his reaction was pure Time Lord-level joy. Genuinely one of those brilliant little moments that says everything about a couple and the things they love.
And yes, Dani is a wedding photographer too, which might sound intimidating. But honestly, he trusted me completely. The whole day felt relaxed, warm and full of mutual kindness. Exactly the sort of wedding I love being part of.
Derby Registry Office Wedding Photography
Derby Registry Office is a brilliant choice for couples planning a laid-back wedding in the heart of the city. The ceremony rooms feel intimate and welcoming, which makes them ideal if you want the focus to stay on the people in the room rather than lots of tradition or formality.
One of the best things about a Derby Registry Office wedding is how easy it is to find good photo spots nearby. Within a short walk you have courtyards, riverside paths and plenty of city textures that work beautifully for natural portraits without needing loads of travel time.
For Dani and Stu, that meant relaxed group photos near the registry office, couple portraits around the city, and then a brilliant change of scene at the Museum of Making for the reception. It made for a wedding day that felt varied, personal and very them from beginning to end.
