Andy and Ivo’s Islington Town Hallwedding was everything I love about laid-back, love-filled celebrations. These two wanted a relaxed day that reflected their personalities – and it couldn’t have suited my photography style more.
On a busy spring Saturday, the couple greeted guests outside the iconic Town Hall, buzzing with excitement. As the registrar made final preparations, I stole a quiet moment in the marbled corridors for a portrait (and yes, we got one with Mum too!). Then, with one last hug from their mothers, Andy and Ivo walked down the aisle together to become husbands.
After confetti and sunshine, we strolled through the streets to their reception at The Old Queen’s Head. Urban weddings like this are a dream – every corner becomes a backdrop, every passerby a cheerleader.
Before the meal, Ivo’s Bulgarian heritage took centre stage with a beautiful bread ceremony. His mum, Iordanka, had baked a traditional round loaf, torn and dipped in salt and honey to symbolise life’s sweet and salty moments. It was a heartfelt way for both families to welcome each groom.
The evening unfolded with laughter, stories, and traditional dancing – proof that love, culture, and community make the best kind of party.
Although I’m known as Birmingham’s Friendliest Photographer, I travel far and wide for couples like Andy and Ivo. If you’re planning a wedding at Islington Town Hall – or anywhere that celebrates love in all its forms – I’d love to be part of your day. Drop me a line, ask me for my wedding guide, and let’s get cracking.
