Emily and Sim at Barford Park Barn

Faith, Love and Dancing

A couple by a gate in Barford Park Barn

There’s often a touch of nervous energy in the brides I meet, but when Simeon first introduced me to Emily in 2022, I got the distinct impression she knew exactly what she was signing up for. “This is my fiancée,” Simeon said with a grin. “She’s agreed to help us out at the Doctor Who signing today…” As definitions of love go, that moment said it all. Emily clearly understood the joyful chaos that comes with marrying Simeon. We were about to travel from Southampton to Gallifrey, for an exquisite Barford Park Wedding.

A Joyful Ceremony in Southampton

Their wedding day began early, with a heartfelt ceremony at Simeon’s home church in Southampton City Centre. A week prior, I’d sent them my Wedding Guide, detailing where I’d be at each stage of the day. Line one? Depart London at 07:30 for the drive to Hampshire.

I always leave a buffer when travelling far for weddings – so I arrived with time to spare, just as guests began to gather.

Faith and fellowship were at the heart of Emily and Simeon’s celebration. The communities they’ve built through their churches mean the world to them, and that love was woven into every part of the service. I often joke that I have one major flaw as a wedding photographer: if someone cries, I’m a goner. True to form, when Emily appeared at the church doors in her stunning white dress from Cherished Bridal Wear, Sim’s reaction had me welling up behind the lens.

Family, Fellowship, and a TARDIS

The ceremony, led by Emily’s pastor, was filled with music, joy, and the unmistakable feeling of two families becoming one.

That sense of family extended to every detail of the day:

Sarah lovingly made their cake, who also arranged the flowers with Katherine.

Emily’s radiant makeup was by Arantxa.

Handcrafted table decorations added a personal touch.

And yes – there was even a TARDIS, courtesy of Ben.

Barford Park Wedding Reception

After tea and cake with the congregation, I headed off to the reception venue to capture it in all its glory. Barford Park Barn is a beautifully restored 17th-century barn overlooking Downton church and the water meadows that border the River Avon.

With hand-sewn bunting and rustic charm, the barn looked glorious – but my first thought was, “It’s quite dark in here!” Can you still get light, airy wedding photos in a low-light venue?

Absolutely. That’s where my trusty prime lenses come in. With my 85mm and 35mm f/1.4 lenses on each hip, I was able to flood the camera with light and capture every heartfelt speech and delicious dish, effortlessly prepared by Man With A Pan.

Organised, Joyful, and Full of Heart

When I work with couples, I always ask for a list of must-have formal photos so we can keep things smooth and stress-free. Emily and Sim nailed it – organised, thoughtful, and with a best man (Tom) who kept everything running like clockwork. Honestly, I’d bring Tom to every wedding if I could. Gold standard. Thank you, Tom!

Dancing into the Night

The evening ended with a joyful ceilidh from the Southampton University Folk Society. With laughter, dancing, and love in the air, I drove home singing all the way back to London.
